Watch: Firefighters Daringly Rappel Down a Rocky Cliff to Rescue a Trapped Surfer

A day of surfing on the California coast turned scary for one surfer after they became trapped between a rock wall and powerful waves.

According to the San Francisco Fire Department, the surfer lost their surfboard and got stuck on rocks below a cliff. The incident happened this past Friday below the Cliff House, a popular tourist destination and restaurant.

Fire crews set up ropes to rappel to the trapped surfer. Officials say the local Ocean Patrol also sent swimmers into the dangerous surf as a backup for the surfer and rescuers above.

The San Francisco Fire Department’s PIO shared the video of the rescue. The clips show rescuers working their way down the rocks, getting to the surfer, and slowly returning to safety. The rescued surfer was in stable condition.
